Sustainability

We use all materials to the maximum here at RainbowPot Products. From sourcing sustainably, to hand spinning yarns and creating scrapwork items from tiny ends of fibres left from larger garments. You can see more of the process at @rainbowpotpatterncommunity on Facebook group & Instagram account.

Hand spinning fibres:

>RainbowPot creates blended fibres to form new yarns that can be used in a range of products. We have also travelled with these workshops to showcase and teach others to create using drop spindle and spinning wheel techiques.

Sourcing sustainably:

>Travelling to local craft stores and getting into the community by supporting these store that we have on local highstreets to hidden villages. We also keep an eye out for charity store natural yarn stashes, which can lower material costs.

Mini yarns:

>Once a skein of yarn has been used up, we keep the remains to use for colourwork projects. We also have taken in donations of these from other crafters that do not use small amounts for their projects.

Scrap work:

>If a piece of material has a very small length left we add this to a pot where it is collected for usually a year until there is enough to tie together to create a huge upcycled ball of yarn. These are extremely unique pieces that are created from this type of sustainable practice. For example; scarf & poncho.

Fibre ends:

>When what is left is 2 inches or under that also goes into a separate pot, these are fibre offcuts and are used in the hand spinning process trough blending using carding brushes. This way we can use 100% of the otherwise ‘waste’ and recycle it into unique yarns to create more art from. Then the cycle continues from the top of this list.
